Congratulations to Liam, recipient of last week's Ham Award.
Last week, the students finished their study of the Top Ten Epidemics of All Time! They compared and contrasted the top three (Influenza 1918, Tuberculosis, and Black Death) using a triple Venn diagram!
The students learned about Typhoid Mary and had a great discussion about just how much the government should be able to do when it comes to the personal life and decisions of a person. The students used a "Six Thinking Hats" strategy to think about Typhoid Mary's situation from six different views: the facts, good things, bad things, their own feelings about it, what they would have done differently, and a summation.
This has been an outstanding group of young learners. I will miss them as they move across the hall to Ms. Drummer's room for the last unit of the 5th grade TAG year.
Middle School Placement letters will be coming home this week. Look for them in the Thursday papers. If you have any questions after reviewing them, please send me an e-mail - [email protected]
4th grade.
Last week, the students participated in a very timely activity. The students had to decide whether their TAG Town company should invest $500,000 on a Super Bowl Ad. I loved the ideas the students came up with and the majority of the students agreed that it would be better to just place a fantastic ad on You Tube and hope that it went viral instead of spending money to buy airtime at the Super Bowl. It's a new generation, folks !!
There was a "Get Rich, Quick" scheme in TAG Town last week as the students had the opportunity to buy lottery tickets. They learned that there is "no such thing as a free lunch" and that the odds of winning the big money were unbelievably NOT in their favor.
The students continue to work on their service project to collect toothbrushes and toothpaste for the children services by North Fulton Community Charities. Ask you friends and neighbors to donate. Collection boxes will be out at school next week (think Valentine's love). We hope to fill many boxes of children's toothpaste and children's toothbrushes to share with those in need.
