3rd grade - I was excited to finally see these students, and they seemed to be quite happy that they no longer had a substitute. As an introduction to the Ancient Civilizations unit, the students explored four ancient structures and then decided which one they would want to travel back in time to see in person. Choices were: Great Wall of China, Pyramid at Giza, Parthenon, and Colosseum. Students had 90 seconds to explain why they made their particular selections. Check them out HERE.
Kindergarten and 1st grade students became architects this week as they designed and built two structures. The first was a building made of index cards where the challenges were 1) the most stories and 2) the most unusual design. Secondly, they took tangram blocks and designed the facade of a house. With the magic of green screen movie-making, the students can be seen standing in front of their shape houses (below).
