Our class motto this year:
"We choose to go to the Moon and do the others things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard." ~ John F. Kennedy
Our first units this year are:
1st/2nd - Pilgrim's Challenge
The purpose of this unit is to give the students a closer look at the struggle that was part of everyday life in Plymouth Colony. Students will vicariously experience the hardships of life in the New World as they make decisions and face consequences just as the Pilgrims did nearly 400 years ago They will establish colonies in the New World and try to do a better job of surviving than the original Pilgrims. Their success will depend on hard work, good decisions, and luck.
4th/5th - TAG Town
A creative problem-solving unit that simulates real life. Students are faced with real-world decisions related to money management, budgeting, jobs, taxes and bills. Students are randomly assigned families and jobs. They then are presented with real-life situations and decisions that they must make (just as parents do).
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for pictures and details about TAG.
In the meantime, parents, check out the great resources available for you from The National Association for Gifted Children.
