In 5th grade, students did some creative problem-solving as they took on the challenge to move a marble through a 6' long piece of foam tubing. Students create hills, loops, and eventually joined their "track" with those of other teams.
Teacher-directed reading started this week. Fifth grade is reading The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart. | In fourth grade, I'm reading October Sky to the students. I re-read the book myself just recently and edited out parts of the book that I didn't feel were appropriate or interesting for fourth graders. So, they're getting the Searcy-Abridged version of the book. In a 1950's mining town called Coalwood, Homer Hickam is a kid with only one future in sight, to work in the local coal mine like his father. However in October 1957, everything changes when the first artificial satellite, Sputnik goes into orbit. With that event, Homer becomes inspired to learn how to build rockets. With his friends and the local nerd, Homer sets to do just that by trial and a lot of error. They must learn to perfect their craft and overcome the many problems facing them as they shoot for the stars. |
The students decided that they wanted an easy way to share some of the things they viewed in class with their family and friends. So, I'll be posting the things the kids want to share HERE.
